How can you film, shoot and document complex bacteria growth for long periods during a global lockdown? We needed to use all of our creative production savvy and shoot this campaign in one of our satellite studios just outside London. This was always going to be an interesting R&D project, especially as controlling life is never easy. After many failed attempts and a lot of trial and error, we found a fool-proof solution to grow and shoot beautifully unique cultures that could develop into any shape. Every shot had its charm, and no two letters were the same. The result was a practical, homegrown solution full of happy accidents which we were all very proud to have made. Each area in their scientific development has a theme and story which all needed visualising in a creative and digestible format for its launch. The brief was to use contemporary art installations as the visual mechanism to explore, experiment and develop two-sided optical illusions driven by a story narrated by their leading medical experts. Using CGI to visualise the artwork allowed us complete control on how each component could be sculpted and manipulated into position. The result was an entirely CGI crafted, modern gallery space optimised to tell each essential installations story. SMA is a progressive & rare disease that presents itself in many ways so demonstrating a child showing symptoms in the right tone and getting this information clearly across to the audience, was integral to the campaign's success. This campaign aims to inform as many people as possible about the early signs and symptoms of SMA, which will help save lives. We decided that the best way to approach this campaign was to create realistic but stylised 3D characters. That way, given the circumstances, we would explore and develop a light, flexible, but informative set of deliveries. We worked closely with the client's medical team to character design, pose and animate our hero children into all the scenarios needed. Creating digital characters meant we had the creative freedom to pinpoint key attributes and symptoms which required highlighting. The result was a fully integrated campaign full of visual assets art directed and animated across many different outputs all supplied with a detailed toolkit packaged up for international markets. We were sent over a large box of chocolates to devour, photograph and film for the hero campaign. Also accompanying the tasty chocolates were the luxuriously smooth Chocolixir shakes, which tempted everyone on set during the sweltering summer heat. As we needed to use the actual product and not cheat anything with models or digital trickery, we partnered with a great team of food stylists and home economists to help keep our treats in good order. We split our production days so we could simultaneously film and photograph all assets as efficiently as possible. Saving us time and allowing us to re-use the new products and ingredients shared throughout the days. The result was a premium tool kit of imagery used to launch this new, exciting and tasty range.
